Muralist Invites George Strait Fans to Visit Fort Worth Design District to See Tribute to King of Country Music
FORT WORTH, TX, March 17, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ — Fort Worth-based Artist Juan Velazquez loves him some George Strait. “When I was on active duty, I really missed my home in Fort Worth, and I used to spend a lot of time listening to King George because his songs evoke so many of my happiest memories of Texas,” said Velazquez.
When Velazquez competed for a cash prize at the 3rd Annual Graffiti Art Festival held in the Fort Worth Design District at 1953 Golden Heights Road on Saturday, March 14, 2020, he knew he wanted to paint a mural to honor his favorite old-school country music artist.
During the competition, each artist painted a billboard-sized art piece with an inspirational theme on one of the more than 100 containers that comprise the eco-friendly Ft Worth business park, Box Office Warehouse Suites, at the center of the approximately 50-acre Fort Worth Design District.
“I’m honored and, of course, thrilled to have won,” said current Army Reservist Juan Velazquez. “I can’t wait for next year’s festival so I can defend my title and add to Texas’ largest outdoor art gallery,” he added.
Velazquez, who started his career as a professional artist in 2018, is an accomplished muralist and oil painter known for his realistic portraits. He has a solo show coming up at the end of 2020 at Artes de la Rosa in the Stockyards in Fort Worth. To see more of his art and get news on upcoming events, follow him on Facebook or visit his artist website at https://www.velazquezart.com.
“I would love for all the George Strait fans in Fort Worth to come and see the mural and get a picture of themselves with my version of The King of Country,” said Velazquez.
In addition to the contest, the annual art festival included more than 100 arts and crafts vendors, a handful of food trucks and tours of spaces for lease at Box Office Warehouse Suites, North Fort Worth’s shipping container business park.
Festival attendees also took in the Snap and Share Art Walk, a series of interactive murals ideal for snapping selfies or other photos to share. This year, the art walk was sponsored by Salon and Spa Galleria Alliance.
Sponsors raffled off prizes throughout the event, including a one-hour Lamborghini Driving experience donated by Fort Worth Car Storage. Admission to the dog friendly event was free.
